Brian Smith, the Director of Rugby of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the London Irish is keeping all the cards very close t his chest regarding the future of one of the club’s biggest stars, full back Tom Homer.
According to the back pages of transfer gossip, the player, who comes to the end of his contract with the club at the end of the current season, would be moving to fellow Aviva Premiership rivals Bath Rugby in the summer.
Although Smith refused to either deny or confirm any rumours regarding the future of his star player, he did express his admiration for the talents of the 24 year old, who has been an ever present player for the team since he made his debut for the Exiles back in 2008. Smith said that he cannot go about and speak about rumours, adding that he has gone on record and said how highly he rates Homer.
The London Irish boss added that Homer has got some unique gifts. But he also mentioned that no player is absolutely perfect and no one is irreplaceable in a team, but in spite of that, he is a home grown player of the club.
Smith mentioned that the fact that Homer is a player from the academy means that he knows the club inside out, its philosophies and what it stands for and it is important for any club to hold on to such players.
The London Irish gaffer went on to add that people move on for a lot of reasons, including opportunities, money, trophies but sometimes, they just want a change of scenery but Homer knows how highly he regards him as a player and it would be very nice of him to stay at the club that has nurtured him.
